Ties between Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and National Bank of Hungary (MNB) governor György Matolcsy "remain close", the central bank said in a statement issued on Monday.

MNB dismissed "false reports" and "mistaken conclusions" aired by news agency Bloomberg and MEP István Ujhelyi, in recent days.

"Contrary to false rumors, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and György Matolcsy, the central bank governor, have a proper working relationship and, similar to earlier years, consult regularly on professional matters," MNB said.

MNB said Bloomberg and Ujhelyi should refrain from the promulgation of information containing "false statements" in the interest of preserving confidence in Hungary's financial system and keeping people informed in an objective manner.
