Q4 State Debt Ratio at 73.5%

Hungary's state debt relative to GDP reached 73.5% at the end of the fourth quarter, according to preliminary data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) on its website.

The state debt ratio fell from 75.1% at the end of Q3 and 74% at the end of 2022. Hungary's constitution stipulates that year-end state debt relative to GDP must decline until the ratio reaches 50%. 

In absolute terms, Hungary's state debt stood at HUF 55.084 trillion at the end of Q4, HUF 715 billion higher than at the end of Q3 and HUF 6.194 tln more than at the end of 2022. 

The data shows the general government net financing requirement reached HUF 5.055 tln in the four quarters to Q4, equivalent to 6.7% of GDP. Households' net financing capacity reached HUF 4.988 tln in the four quarters to Q4, equivalent to 6.7% of GDP.
