Utilities company E.ON Hungaria last week showcased a project to install more than 165,000 smart meters, according to a press release.

Ministry of Energy Affairs State Secretary Attila Steiner noted that Hungary was pre-financing the project, which was awarded HUF 10.1 billion in funding from the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).

A total of HUF 20 bln in RRF funding is going toward installing 290,000 smart meters, of which E.ON Hungaria is installing more than half, he added.

The power company's chairman-CEO Guntram Würzberg said the smart meters could be read remotely and offered customers detailed information on consumption.
