Construction Industry Waste Doubles Over Past Decade

The volume of waste generated by Hungary's construction industry has more than doubled over a 10-year period, according to data compiled by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).
Construction industry waste reached 9.9 million tonnes in 2021, up 125% from 10 years earlier. During the same period, the volume of industrial waste dropped 14% to 5.1 million tonnes. Municipal waste volume came to 4 million tonnes, up 6% from 10 years earlier.
The total volume of waste generated in Hungary reached 20.5 million tonnes in 2021, up 31% from 2011.
That volume included 700,000 tonnes of hazardous waste and another 700,000 tonnes of agricultural and food industry waste.
