Used car sales in Hungary edged down half a percent close to 821,000 last year, listings site JoAutok.hu said on Friday, citing figures compiled by DataHouse.

JoAutok.hu CEO Bertalan Halász said high inflation had channeled some would-be new car buyers to the used car market, but added that sales were also lifted by the long-term increase in the number of motor vehicles on Hungarian roads.

Opel was the most popular brand among used car buyers last year, accounting for 11% of sales. Volkswagen was runner-up with 10.3% market share, followed by Suzuki (8.5%), Ford (7.8%) and BMW (6.3%).
