There were 86,248 vehicles registered in Hungary with green number plates at the end of 2023, up 22,651 from a year earlier, statistics published by the Interior Ministry show.

The green number plates, launched late in 2015, are for fully electric vehicles as well as plug-in, full, and range-extender hybrids, depending on the distance they can travel using batteries.

The number of fully-electric vehicles rose by 13,779 to 48,533. That number included 45,342 fully-electric cars.

Just over 34,000 vehicles with green plates were registered in the capital.
