Almost 60% of rural guest nights in Hungary were spent in spa towns, according to the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ).

Based on the data for the first half of the year, Siófok (110 km southwest of Budapest), Hajdúszoboszló (205 km east), Hévíz (185 km southwest), Balatonfüred (125 km southwest), Bük (200 km west), Zalakaros (225 km southwest), Gyula (215 km southeast), Sárvár (190 km southwest), Szeged (170 km southeast) and Eger (103 km northeast) were the most popular spa towns after Budapest, MTÜ said.

According to National Tourist Information Center data, in the first six months of the year, almost a third of all rural guest nights were spent in these settlements; in the summer, this proportion more than doubled.

Some 59% of all rural guest nights were spent in spa towns in the summer.
