Guest Nights up 20-21% Over Holidays

Guests nights at tourism accommodations in Hungary climbed 21% over Christmas and 20% during New Year's from a year earlier, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said on Thursday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Around 130,000 visitors spent 243,000 guest nights in Hungary on December 24-26. The number of guest nights spent by foreign tourists rose 25% and the number spent by domestic travelers increased 18%. 

Over New Year's, 216,000 visitors stayed at tourism accommodations. Guest nights spent by foreigners rose 27% and climbed 15% for domestic tourists. 

The capital was the biggest draw over Christmas, attracting the largest number of tourists from Italy, Greece, and Germany. At New Year's, Italians, Germans, and French accounted for the largest numbers of foreign visitors.
