Russian sanctions cost Hungary's farmers €80 mln so far

EU

The Russian embargo on food imports from the European Union has cost Hungary’s farm sector €80 mln so far, Rural Development Minister Sándor Fazekas said, according to Hungarian online daily napigazdasag.hu.

The minister said there could be secondary damage, too, as food from other member states that export to Russia winds up in the local market. Fazekas, who was the first EU farm minister to hold talks with his Russian counterpart after the embargo was imposed, expressed the hope that the restrictions would be eased. Russia announced in August a one-year ban on food imports from the EU, the United States, Canada, Norway and Australia.
