PM: Getting gas from every neighboring country is 'national interest'

Tourism

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called it his "personal strategy" for gas pipelines to bring gas to Hungary from every neighboring country, and said it is in the “basic national interest” that gas come to Hungary by bypassing Ukraine, the prime minister told Hungarian Kossuth Rádió today. He added that there is a gas crisis in Central Europe, due to the Ukraine crisis, which “must be addressed”.

The Slovak-Hungarian gas interconnector is scheduled to begin operations on January 1, which is only the first step and a partial solution due to the size of the pipes. Deliveries are needed from the south, through Serbia, as well, he added.

"Slowly Hungary will get to a stage where its citizens, their families and households enjoy energy security", Orbán said regarding the plans to connect pipelines in all neighboring countries.
