Romania Jobless Rate Slightly Down in August

Romania's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 5.4% in August from a 5.5% rise in the previous month, data released by the Bucharest-based National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Monday show.

Compared to August 2022, the jobless rate fell also 0.1 percentage points. It marked the lowest jobless rate since September 2021, as the number of unemployed persons declined by 8.800 from a month earlier to 446.600.

In August 2022, the number of unemployed was 448.900. Adults aged 25 to 74 who were without a job in August this year represented 77.8% of all unemployed people. Unemployment among people aged 15 to 24 remained high at 22.3%.

Among genders, unemployment rate for men (5.9% vs 5.8% in July) inched up, while slightly decreased for women (4.9% vs 5.2%).
