Hungary's regional wage differential remained "significant" in the third quarter, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said in a review of labor market data.

The average wage in the capital, which stood at gross HUF 677,000 per month, was 68% higher than that in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, where employees earned the least: HUF 402,000/month on average.

Employees in Budapest earned 15% more than workers in Győr-Moson-Sopron County, where wages were the second-highest in the country: HUF 589,000/month.

The average wage in the capital was 21% over the national average.

KSH noted the impact on the regional wage differential of variations in employment structure, the composition of employment based on sectors and occupations, as well as differences in the share of fostered workers.

The statistical agency pointed to a marked increase in wages across all counties during the period and said growth was over the average in counties with a high industrial base.
