Hungary's government has mandated a broad review of the country's road traffic code in a resolution published in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Construction and Transport Ministry said the review would launch with consultations with a broad range of professional, scientific and civic groups.

In addition to the rules of the road, the review will address driving instruction, enforcement and sanctions, and technical requirements for vehicles, while establishing a framework for the use of self-driving vehicles, it added.

The ministry noted that consultations with over 50 public administration, professional, scientific and civil organisations over the past year and a half had yielded recommendations and helped to identify major problems, laying the groundwork for the review of the road traffic code.
