The local council of Szeged (163 km southeast of Budapest) voted on a road that will service an electric vehicle plant China's BYD will build in the north of the city at a meeting on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The 5.7 km road will include 5 km of dual carriageway.

BYD announced in December that it would build its first EV plant in Europe in Szeged.

The local council also cleared a tender for funding to support sustainable workplace commutes. Earlier, companies were awarded monies in the framework of the European Union-supported project to build bicycle storage and bus stops for employees.
