Debrecen airport operator builds direct rail cargo connection

Xanga group, operating the airport in Debrecen, will build a direct rail cargo connection and innovation centre at the airport with a HUF 2.7 billion investment, CEO István Herdon said on Thursday. The company won a HUF 1.34 billion European Union grant for the project. The city of Debrecen has rail freight traffic of 220,000 tonnes a year, said András Vernes, head of Rail Cargo, which participates in the rail connection part of the project. There are HUF 5 billion developments underway in the Debrecen airport, including the just started investment, Xanga director Endre Csukás said.
