Easter Holiday Bookings Edge Higher

Bookings over the four-day Easter holiday rose 3% from a year earlier, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said on Thursday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Information from the National Tourism Data Service Centre (NTAK) show more than 270,000 guests spent close to 600,000 nights at tourism accommodations between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday. The number of domestic travellers reached 138,000. Turnover generated by foreign visitors climbed 9%.

Bookings in the capital accounted for 35% of the total over the long weekend. Foreign tourists, the most from Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, accounted for 89% of the guest nights there. 

Czechs, Slovaks and Germans made up the biggest numbers of foreign visitors at destinations other than the capital.

Revenue of tourism accommodations reached HUF 13 bln. Close to HUF 6 bln was generated by domestic tourists.
