Budapest's renovated Chain Bridge will be inaugurated on Friday with a picnic: the sidewalks and the underpasses at the bridge ends will be opened, and the Municipality of Budapest and the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) will offer a colorful outdoor program to mark the occasion, news agency MTI reports.

The structural and monumental reconstruction of one of Hungary's and Budapest's most important cultural heritage sites and symbols will be completed about one and a half months earlier than originally planned, BKK announced.

The Chain Bridge Picnic, organized by the Municipality of Budapest and BKK, will start at 6 pm on Friday and last until midnight, with educational programs, street musicians, food and drink, and light lanterns, and after dark the bridge will be illuminated in a special way to suit the occasion, a statement by BKK said. The bridge will be closed to traffic for the duration of the event so that visitors and participants can picnic on the road without being disturbed.

BKK points out that ice cream, pretzels, and lemonade will be available at the tents set up on both the Buda and Pest sides, while stocks last. In the children's tent on the Pest side, the organizers are preparing a coloring game, puzzles, a special Chain Bridge Lego building, and more.

BKK and the Municipality of Budapest ask the participants of the Chain Bridge Picnic to take care of their own and others' physical safety, pay increased attention to cleanliness and protect the renovated bridge.
