Budapest, Central Gov't Reach Agreement on Travel Passes

Mayor of Budapest Gergely Karácsony and Minister of Construction and Transport János Lázár reached an agreement on reciprocal use of passes for city, county, and country-wide public transport, the mayor's office said in a press release.
Under the agreement, Budapest passes will be valid on public transport in the entire area of the capital, while country and Pest County passes for state-owned public transport will be valid on the capital's BKK network.
The sides also agreed on a new system for allocating central budget support to the city's public transport.
As a result of the new agreement, the Municipality of Budapest will pay HUF 5.57 billion to MÁV as a settlement of the agglomeration cost compensation for 2022-2023.
Lázár announced earlier that public transport passes for the state-owned MÁV-Volán group would be streamlined from March 1.
