Hungary is making preparations to provide assistance to more refugees from the war in Ukraine, expected to arrive in the coming week, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message on Facebook on Wednesday.

"We're on our way to the barracks in Debrecen. We'll work there for the next three days," Orbán said.

"The reason for this is that, according to reports early this morning, 429,000 refugees have arrived in Hungary already. The war is not abating but spreading, and as the war spreads, there is the risk that even more will arrive in Hungary in the coming week, and that presents us with an enormous challenge," he said.

"We're proud that Hungary has been able to meet the needs of all refugees so far. In the coming three days, we will organize next week's defense so we're able to continue to offer help to everybody in trouble," he added.
