Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Thursday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

At a joint press conference after the meeting, Orbán said Europe needs to form alliances that give it an ever wider line of defense against migration, and Turkey is part of that line of defense.

Hungary is pressing Brussels for direct support on a larger scale for Ankara's struggle with migration, he added.

He said the European Union should back the construction of walls on Turkey's southern and eastern borders, as well as contribute to the stabilization of Northern Syria.

Orbán and Erdogan held talks at the fifth meeting of the Hungarian-Turkish High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
