Hungary to Aid Flood-Hit Pakistan

Int’l Relations

Hungary is sending medical supplies and other aid worth HUF 15 million to flood-hit Pakistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on his Facebook page on Thursday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Global warming and climate change "are kicking the door on us", Szijjártó said. Pakistan is currently grappling with the greatest natural disaster in its history, with 33 million people still living in areas hit by unprecedented flooding.

Reconstruction will take "several years and billions of dollars", and the international community is mobilizing to send aid, he added.

Hungary is "doing what we can: we are sending medicine worth HUF 10 million next week and support the local Catholic community with another HUF 5 mln, while Hungary's honorary consul to Pakistan has provided food, tents, and hygiene products to families in need," the minister said.
