Lawmakers to Vote Monday on New President

MPs will vote on Hungary's next president on February 26, the leader of the parliamentary group of governing Fidesz said after a meeting of the House Committee on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
Máté Kocsis noted in a post on Facebook that the signatures of one-fifth of MPs were required for a valid nomination for president, adding that opposition LMP and Mi Hazánk lacked the 40 MPs necessary for their announced nominations. The other opposition parties have signaled they don't wish to participate in the process of electing the new president, he added.
MPs of the governing Fidesz-KDNP alliance have nominated Tamás Sulyok, who heads the Constitutional Court, for the office of President of the Republic.
