Lawmakers extend state-of-emergency measures

Parliament

MPs voted on Wednesday to extend measures taken under the state of emergency declared because of the war in Ukraine, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The bill was passed with a vote of 116 for and 43 against.

The "special legal order" established by the legislation aims to create the conditions for "efficient, fast national responses to managing the humanitarian catastrophe and protecting against the consequences of international and economic changes" resulting from the war, according to the text of the law.

The government declared a state of emergency with effect from May 25. Hungary's constitution allows measures enacted during a state of emergency to remain in force for a period of 15 days unless parliament mandates their extension.
