Parliament on Tuesday approved the establishment of a special temporary residency permit for digital nomads who are nationals of non-European Union countries, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Foreign nationals from third countries whose "use of advanced digital technology allows their work to be conducted from anywhere" may apply for the "White Card" that allows residency in Hungary for a period of one year with an optional one-year extension.

The White Card bill was approved with a vote of 134 for and 54 against.

The legislation was the result of an initiative by the Operative Corps for coordinating Hungary's economic recovery.
