Talks with the European Commission on the transfer of Hungary's European Union funding "point to progress", Justice Minister Judit Varga told Hungarian journalists in Brussels on Tuesday, after a meeting of the General Affairs Council, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Varga noted that the issue of the EC's proposal to suspend some of Hungary's EU funding as the country takes measures to address rule-of-law concerns was not on the agenda of the meeting, but the matter was discussed on the sidelines.

"Member states are taking a very constructive position on the issue, and I also said the talks with the commission were constructive," she said.

"It was a solution-oriented series of negotiations," she added.
