EUR 226 mln in VC, PE transactions last year

Venture capital and private equity transactions in Hungary came to more than EUR 226 million last year, up 36% from a year earlier, according to a report by the Hungarian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (HVCA), writes portfolio.hu.

There were a total of 236 transactions in 2020, up 15% from a year earlier. The average transaction size was EUR 947,000, up 18% from 2019. Of all investments, 23% were buyouts, 22% went to start-up companies, 40% were seed and incubation investments, and 11% went to late-stage investments. HVC said 13 exits took place last year.

Hungarian venture capital funds made 245 investments worth EUR 192 mln in Hungary and abroad last year compared to EUR 156 mln a year earlier.

Among transactions made with Hungarian companies, more than half of the investments were in the financial and insurance sector and the ICT sector. Among investments by Hungarian venture capital funds, most of the investments were in the transport sector, with an average tr ansaction size of EUR 2 mln.
