Value of Bank Card Payments Climbs 17% in Q3

The value of payments in Hungary made with locally-issued bank cards climbed 17% year-on-year to HUF 3.736 trillion in the third quarter, data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) on Friday show.

The value of cash withdrawals made with the bank cards edged down 2% to HUF 2.368 tln.

The bank cards were used to make HUF 669 bln of purchases abroad, climbing 20% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of brick-and-mortar businesses with POS terminals in Hungary stood at 151,600 at the end of September, up 7% from 12 months earlier. The number of online businesses with POS terminals rose 19% to 48,372.

The number of ATMs in the country inched up 1% to 4,860.

The value of transactions made using mobile bank cards jumped 50% to HUF 711 bln in Q3.

Bank transfers made using Hungary's instant payment system increased by 6% to HUF 12.417 tln.
