Warm weather requires special attention during harvest

Harvesting has started nationwide, and the extremely warm weather requires special attention from farmers, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said in a statement, according to portfolio.hu.

The minister pointed out that the harvest of cereals started earlier this year because the grain ripens faster due to the high heat.

This year's crop production prospects are severely affected by the drought, which is hitting the Great Plain hardest.

By June 27, farmers had reported drought damage to nearly 230,000 hectares of agricultural land nationwide under the agricultural damage mitigation scheme.

According to the reports, the most severe and widespread drought damage occurred in Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties, Nagy added.
