Hungarian insurers' payouts on claims for storm damages from home policyholders climbed over HUF 9.1 billion between May 1 and August 31, the Hungarian Insurers Association (MABISZ) said on Monday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The payouts, to almost 95,000 policyholders, were up from HUF 6.6 bln in 2020 and HUF 4.1 bln in 2019.

MABISZ noted that it has compiled uniform statistics on summer storm damage since 2010, a year in which flooding resulted in HUF 30 bln of payouts on 312,000 claims.

This year, the most claims were filed after storms on July 9 and August 1.
