Hungary's melon harvest could reach 120,000-130,000 tonnes this year, professional association FruitVeB said on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The melon harvest has already started and fresh melons will be stocked in local supermarkets soon, FruitVeB said.

Hungary also exports melons, mainly to Czechia, Poland and Slovakia.

This year, farmers are growing watermelon on 2,600 hectares and cantaloupe on 400 hectares. Unusually hot weather may reduce melon yields slightly, but the sunny weather promises a crop of outstanding quality, FruitVeB said.
