Hungarian agriculture can supply the population with high-quality food, producing excellent raw materials for the developing food industry that increases its competitiveness, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said this week in Kecskemét (90 km southeast of Budapest), according to profitline.hu.

Nagy emphasized that the proportion of domestic products in consumption is 20 percentage points higher than the European Union average.

The minister stressed that the possible effect "should not be underestimated," since a five percentage point increase in the proportion of domestic products in retail chains and consumption provides domestic producers and suppliers with the opportunity to expand by HUF 130 billion annually.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
