Drought Reduces Wheat Crop by 21%

Hungary's wheat harvest fell 21% to 4.2 million tonnes this year because of drought, state news wire MTI reports, citing data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH).

KSH noted that wheat was planted on an area of 951,000 hectares, up 6.5% from a year earlier.

The barley harvest fell 10% to 1.5 million tonnes.

The rye harvest dropped 32% to 58,000 tonnes and the oat harvest plunged 51% to approximately 38,000 tonnes.
