Healthcare workers will have priority as inoculations with the first doses of a bivalent vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech targeting both the original Covid-19 strain and the Omicron BA.1 variant start, a post on the government's official pandemic website shows.

The updated jabs will be available to the general public at hospital vaccination points from the coming week. Government offices are gauging demand for the booster in nursing homes.

Hungary took its first delivery of the updated jabs - more than 109,000 doses - a week earlier.

The country will get a total 9.5 million of the jabs in the framework of a European Union order, including 3 million this year and 6.5 million in 2023.

Around 1.5 million of the jabs are optimized for children.
