DoDo aiming to revolutionize home delivery in Hungary

Innovation

Czech startup DoDo is looking to revitalize the Hungarian home delivery market, and has already made its services available in several Hungarian cities, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.

This week, the Czech startup celebrated the first anniversary of its operation in Hungary. The launch in Hungary was made possible by an investment of almost EUR 400 000. The number of Hungarian cities where DoDo delivers is growing: in addition to Budapest, it includes Miskolc, Debrecen, Eger, Szolnok, Szeged, Békéscsaba, Pécs, Kaposvár, Zalaegerszeg, Szombathely, Győr, Tatabánya, Veszprém, and Székesfehérvár.

"Fast and accurate home delivery is more important than ever. Small and large businesses alike can operate more efficiently if they entrust these tasks to dedicated operators. Thanks to our new and innovative urban logistics solutions, we can deliver products to customers efficiently, quickly, and sustainably. We are aware that the perception of our customers is greatly influenced by the behavior of our couriers, which is why we place great emphasis on their thorough and continuous training," said Károly Sáfár, DoDo's representative in Hungary.

DoDo has developed a high-performance logistics platform that, thanks to its data-driven solutions, enables the intelligent coordination of the performance of different courier tasks. The complex analysis of the incoming information allows the forecasting of demand, traffic situation, and optimal fleet capacity, making door-to-door delivery more sustainable than ever before, as the accurate assessment of resource requirements saves unnecessary trips.

The "last 2 kilometers" delivery, which is part of the smart city model, means that DoDo's cars and couriers cover shorter distances. Most door-to-door delivery companies tend to use several vehicles in parallel for the same area and the same period of time. By contrast, DoDo is able to make the best use of its fleets by properly analyzing the real-time data it receives, which has a positive impact on the environment.

The service is currently available in four European countries, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary. The company started its operations in Hungary with nine vehicles and now has more than 70 vehicles and 150 employees. In Europe, DoDo has established long-term partnerships and pilot projects with a number of retailers and fast-food chains such as Nespresso, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Rohlik, the Czech parent company of Kifli.hu.

DoDo was founded in 2015 as a direct-to-consumer courier service. In 2016, INVEO, owned by Michal Mensik, bought and took over the company, which at the time had only two cars, 10 couriers and five back-office employees. Following the acquisition, the B2B delivery service based on the "last 2 kilometers" principle, which has been the basis of the company's success, was developed. Last year, DoDo was ranked the second fastest growing company in the Central European region in Deloitte's Technology Fast 50 list. It has its own infrastructure, more than 600 vehicles, over 1,200 couriers and has delivered more than 4.5 million orders to date.
