Etele Plaza Achieves Breeam 'Very Good' Certification

Sustainability

Etele Plaza became the first building in Hungary to achieve a Breeam "Very Good" certification in the retail category, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.

In line with Breeam's strict requirements, Etele Plaza was designed to ensure easy accessibility, minimize light pollution and direct environmental impact, incorporate durable materials, and promote waste recycling.

In line with the certification, the tenants have also sought sustainability in the construction of the shops. The environmentally friendly shopping and entertainment center has a green space of almost 4,000 sqm, with colorful plants, as well as ornamental shrubs, and trees.

In line with Futureal's "Stay Safe" initiative, the interiors are, wherever possible, almost completely touch-free. The air handling system's UV-light germicidal filtration units destroy nearly 100% of airborne viruses and bacteria in seconds, without the use of disinfectant chemicals. Disinfection points are available in the busiest areas and washrooms. The rubber belts of escalators are continuously disinfected by a built-in device while they are in motion to ensure maximum safety. And the toilets can be used without touching them.

"Environmental and people-oriented operations have been central to the development of the new generation Etele Plaza. Accordingly, we have implemented the most modern technical solutions, bringing a new era of shopping malls to Hungary," said Dóra Borsos-Vámosi, co-director of Etele Plaza.

With 55 000 sqm of retail space available for rent, Etele Plaza is also the country's first smart mall, offering a personalized shopping experience thanks to its self-developed mobile app and cloud-based services.

With a green-roofed, direct terrace connection to the spacious restaurant level, the complex showcases the latest developments in the evolution of shopping mall design. In addition to the stores, shoppers can find a wide range of grocery stores, restaurants, cafés, fitness facilities, a children's play house, and services in the plaza, which also has a modern cinema.
