Hungary's potential labor reserve, including the unemployed, the underemployed, and the economically inactive who intend to look for work but don't meet availability criteria, averaged 294,000 in the third quarter, data compiled by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) show.

That number included 200,000 jobless, 60,000 people who wanted to work but weren't looking for jobs, 22,000 underemployed, and 11,000 job-seekers who were unable to start work within two weeks.

More than one-third of the potential labor reserve resided in the Northern Great Plain and Northern Hungary regions. Close to 60% had not completed a school-leaving examination and 32% had only finished primary school. The potential labor reserve with work experience had mostly worked in blue-collar positions in manufacturing, construction, or commerce, or as fostered workers.

The number of people employed stood at 3,678,000 in Q3, from a population of around 9,600,000. The employment rate for the 15- to 64-year-old age group was 75%.

The latest monthly data from KSH show there were 4,828,000 economically active people in the 15- to 64-year-old age group in October. The number of economically inactive people in the age group reached 1,328,000.
