Montenegro's new flag carrier to start regular operations next week

Transport

ToMontenegro, the successor of flag carrier Montenegro Airlines, plans to start regular commercial operations with a flight linking Podgorica and Tivat to Belgrade on June 10, spokesperson Mina Mukovic said.

"We will fly every day from Podgorica and more than once a day from Tivat," Mukovic said on Tuesday as quoted by news portal SeeNews.

ToMontenegro, which will operate under the Air Montenegro brand, will launch regular service to Bosnia's Banja Luka on June 27 and to Slovenia's capital Ljubljana on June 29, Mukovic said. The government established the new national air carrier in January to replace troubled Montenegro Airlines which will be liquidated.

The liquidation procedure would cost about EUR 50 million but it is inevitable, as the country's competition authority has ruled that the law for public investment in the flag carrier adopted in 2019 was illegal, the government said in December.
