The central government is allocating HUF 4.6 billion to plan a connection between the terminus of the capital's number 2 metro line and the HÉV suburban rail line, Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister's Office, said at a press conference on Tuesday.

With the decision, there is a "real possibility" that the investment can be completed during the 2021-2027 European Union funding cycle, Gulyás said.

He noted that city leaders earlier agreed that the central government should take over preparations for the project from 2021.

He said the project was likely to cost more than HUF 200 billion.
