China Southern Airlines will launch a flight between Budapest and Guangzhou, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The flight, expected to launch on June 27, will operate four times a week, Szijjártó said.

With a population of around 15 million, Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province, where big companies with presences in Hungary, such as BYD, Huawei, ZTE, Sunwoda, and Eve Energy, have HQs and manufacturing bases, he added.

He said the number of weekly flights connecting Budapest with big cities in China would rise to 17, more than in any other country in Central Europe.

The development of economic ties between Hungary and China is a "pillar" of the country's economic growth in the future, he added.
