Pent-up demand and value-for-money will fuel a rapid recovery in the Budapest tourism sector, according to a new book entitled "Escape to Budapest: Moving to Europe's Coolest Capital" by Peter Cooper.

The author has been living in the Hungarian capital for five years.

In the book, he documents his experiences living as an expat in the city with his wife, in some detail and presents chapters on "The Grand Hotels of Budapest", "Coffeehouse Heaven" and many places to see and visit. The work also features a lively investigation of local politics from the apartment house level to geopolitical controversies like immigration and national identity.

The economic boom of five years prior to the pandemic is explained by this Oxford economics graduate and the reasons why foreign direct investment has been so high as well as non-EU immigration, rather contrary to the popular image of Hungary.

The book includes an up-to-date perspective of Hungary's handling of the pandemic and the success of its vaccine program. Cooper sees this as giving Budapest tourism a further edge in getting business moving again.

However, he cautions, "Hungary will not be able to regain its previous economic dynamism without a general uplift in Europe. Planned investment and the unified approach by the leaders of the 27 EU Member States suggest that this will happen."

"That said the attraction of Budapest to tourists as an inexpensive and fulfilling travel experience is not to be underestimated. Several early buyers of my book said it was now on the top of their travel list," he added. "Hungarians have survived far worse episodes in their recent history, and tourism is poised to snap back and boom again."

"Escape to Budapest: Moving to Europe's Coolest Capital" is available exclusively on amazon.co.uk in paperback, and Kindle edition from May 20.
