Hungary's tourism spending surplus at HUF 833 bln in 2021

Hungary's tourism spending surplus came to HUF 833 bln last year, up 28% compared to 2020, news agency MTI reports, citing data by Central Statistics Office (KSH).

Spending by foreign tourists rose over 27% to HUF 1.346 trillion, albeit from a low base impacted by the third wave of the pandemic. Foreign visitors' spending in Hungary was still 41% below the level in 2019, before the crisis.

Spending by Hungarians on holiday abroad rose 27% to HUF 512 bln, but was 47% under that in the same period two years earlier.
