Reservations at commercial accommodations over the holidays are up 30%, bookings site Szallas.hu said on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Bookings show Budapest is the most popular Christmas destination for travelers, while Eger, in a wine-growing region in the northeast of the country, is the top destination for New Year's Eve, followed by Szeged, Pécs, Gyula, and Siófok.

The average room rate per guest stands at HUF 16,000, up close to 24% from a year earlier.

About 48% of holiday bookings are at hotels.
