Applications for HUF 15 billion in wage support for almost 70,000 workers in the hard-hit tourism and catering industries have been processed by the government, state secretary for employment policy Sándor Bodó said in a video message posted on his Facebook page on Monday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The applications for the subsidies, which cover up to half of the payroll costs, were submitted by around 10,000 businesses, Bodó said. The largest number of applications have come from the capital, he added.

The subsidies are available to restaurants and tourism companies whose businesses have been shuttered because of restrictions to contain the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Maintaining headcount is a condition for availing of the support.
