Capital, Eger and Gyula most popular New Year's Eve destinations

Budapest, Eger, and Gyula are the most popular destinations for New Year's Eve in Hungary, according to data by accommodation booking website Szallas.hu.

 "The share of available accommodation in Szallas.hu's Hungarian offer is only around 4%" said Beatrix Trepess, PR manager of Szallas.hu. "This means that this year's bookings exceed the number of 2019 New Year's Eve bookings by 5%"
 
In a regional comparison, Northern Hungary continues to stand out. Eger, Miskolctapolca, Egerszalók, Miskolc, and Szilvásvárad are the cities expecting the most New Year's Eve guests in the region. The rate of vacant accommodation places in Northern Hungary stood at just 2% on December 30.

The average booking value is HUF 85,072 nationally, and the average cost per person per night is HUF 9,722. Most people choose a 2-night stay (42%), 28% of bookings are for 3 nights, and 18% for 1 night. The most expensive New Year's Eve booking on Szallas.hu is worth nearly 850,000 forints for a group of 15 people who will spend four nights in a hotel in Győr.

Among accommodation types, apartments lead the way, holding 31% of bookings. Some 26% of guests will stay in a hotel, 23% in a guest house, 16% in a bed and breakfast and 4% in other types of accommodation to celebrate the New Year. In the hotel category, 4-star hotels are again the most popular this year (46%), closely followed by 3-star hotels (43%).
