Thousands demonstrate prior to Putin's arrival
Approximately 1,500 people marched from Budapest’s Keleti Pályaudvar (Eastern Railway Station) to Nyugati Pályaudvar (Western Railway Station) to protest against Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, who will arrive in Budapest today for negotiations with Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Hungarian online daily index.hu reported late yesterday.
Speaker Márton Gulyás, the activist of Humán Platform, said that the “System of National Cooperation is a dictatorship” that has been present for five years. “Since the change of regime, Hungarians haven’t been as oppressed as they are now” Gulyás added.
Ada Ámon, director of Energiaklub, urged people to express disagreement with the building of Paks II, in order to prevent the plant from being built. She urged Hungary to adopt a “western energy policy” and focus instead on renewable energy.
