Tax authority rejects corruption charges

The National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary (NAV) rejected corruption allegations that recently surfaced against its officials, in a statement today. NAV president Ildikó Vida and official Csillag Dezsőné, however, have still not appeared in public after being taped by an RTL TV crew a week ago at an Austrian airport.

The office released a statement today saying that “it is unacceptable that some handle remarks and suggestions lacking any foundation as facts are used to hinder the tax office's operation and ruin tax morals.” The statement added that “NAV is one of the key institutions in the fight against crime and corruption and it is untrue that VAT fraud can be committed in Hungary without criminal consequences.”

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
