Szijjártó: Good relations between east and west in Europeʼs interest

Analysis

It is in Europeʼs best interest that cooperation between the eastern and western sides of the continent remain "cultured and pragmatic", Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto said yesterday at a press conference in response to a query about talks held during his visit to Moscow last week. Szijjarto said that it would be contrary to Europeʼs economic interests if "a wall were built instead of bridges" at Russiaʼs western borders.

The German proposal to maintain dialogue between the European Union and the Eurasian Union is logical and legitimate, he added.

At the same time, a precondition of such dialogue is that the Minsk agreement peacefully resolve the Ukraine crisis, he said, adding that every participant in the conflict should meet all points of that agreement.
