Sub-committee set up to scrutinize gov’t measures

Parliament

The economy committee of Parliament today voted to set up a sub-committee to scrutinize government measures that may have allowed abuses at three brokerages that recently became insolvent – Buda-Cash, Quaestor and Hungária Értékpapír – Hungarian news agency MTI reported.

The proposal was approved with nine voting in favor and four voting against. The sub-committee will consist of seven members, four from the ruling Fidesz party and three from opposition parties.

The chairman of the sub-committee, ruling-Fidesz MP Lajos Szűcs, said the sub-committee would review the last 15-20 years, focusing on looser checks on financial businesses in the period before 2010.
