Socialists call on Seszták to resign

EU

The opposition Socialists have called on development minister Miklós Seszták to resign, repeating complaints that the minister assisted in questionable deals as an attorney in the past.

Bernadett Budai, a spokesperson for the party, said that according to a report published in yesterday’s issue of Hungarian daily Nepszabadság, Seszták had given his legal signature to company documents in which he was a signatory himself. Rules of the chamber of law state that this behaviour is inappropriate, Budai said, citing the newspaper.

Budai also charged that Seszták had been implicated earlier in questionable deals, alleging that as a member of an offshore company group’s supervisory board he had assisted in tapping into HUF 12.5 bln worth of EU subsidies.
