Report: Farming minister could be replaced

It is highly probable that the replacement of Sándor Fazekas, Hungary’s Minister of Agriculture, was on the agenda of the last cabinet meeting, Hungarian online daily Napi Gazdaság reported yesterday, adding that, as the majority of the ministers are currently serving their second term, the transformation of the government has often been on the agenda of late.

Citing its sources, the paper said that the transformation could start with Fazekas, as a series of recent events have not been in his favor. The daily says that, although "it is very unlikely", his involvement with the recent Kun-Mediator scandal could be brought into question by opposition parties, given that prior to his becoming minister, Fazekas was the major of Karcag, the former home of Kun-Mediator.

One of the background institutions of Fazekas’ ministry, TIG Nonprofit Kft., invested HUF 410 mln in Hungária Értékpapír Zrt., a boutique brokerage which recently became insolvent, the paper said, adding that the minister said in a public announcement that all monies invested “were gone”.
